I'm desperate for a change and have some options open to me. What is NZ like to move to from the UK? Friendly and interesting or beautiful but empty?

  1. It sounds like you haven't been at all?

I have visited for a month, and it is a long way from home.

A lot of the country is beautiful, stunning even but some of it lacks soul.

There is an expo that is held in Manchester & London every year that is full of information, you do need to visit though as it is very different!!

Looks like the Manchester one is in Leeds this year?

You should also visit some expat websites and have a look on their forums - you can "talk" to people who have actually made the move.

  2. I know a family that moved to New Zealand a couple of years ago.

The criteria may have changed more recently, but back then to be accepted you (or your partner) need to have a qualifying profession, and you also needed to have some savings.  Also bear in mind that the cost of moving is quite high, especially if you take much with you.

The family I know are loving it there.  They are doing really well financially, and your money goes a lot further over there - especially when buying property.  They have made lots of new friends, and they already had family living there.  I guess it depends on your personality as to how easy you'll find it.
