hey guys! i have been surfin for alittle while now, and i about to put a stomp pad on my board for the first time. sooo...i dont know how! is there a spicific place to put it, a wrong place to put it, does it matter too much if i have some wax residue on the spot left, and any other tips would be great! what are the advantages of having one? and is windex a safe and good use of a wax remover? thanks!

  1. put the deck pad about a half inch away from the leash stringer, mostly advanced surfers use deck pads. it helps me pull airs and gives me alot of traction to my back foot

  2. It absolutely matters that you have wax residue on the board. The pad will eventually peel off if you don't remove the wax and sand the surface of the board. The way to put it on is to put it on a brand new board as close to the leash plug as possible without covering it. You will need to be able to put your foot above the fins.

  3. I think you are talking about a traction pad.  You'll want to put it on the tail of your board, kinda right about where your back foot is when you're riding.

You really need to scrape all the wax off if you want the pad to really stick on there.  Just use a wax comb and scraper to get all the wax off.  You should be able to use just that and scrape it all off.  Sometimes you can rub it with a towel to get the VERY last bit of wax off.  I don't think you need to use Windex, but that's just my opinion.

I love having a traction pad.  Some of my short boards have them, and some don't.  It makes sharp turns and harsh maneuvers easier...well, maybe not EASIER, but it helps so your foot doesn't slide off.  You definitely have a better grip.  I also love them for duck diving big waves.  It really gives a little ledge for your foot to push off of.  You definitely don't slip off.

Also, you shouldn't go in the water right away after you put it on.  You'll want to give it time to set and dry and stick in place.  It will probably come with complete directions for putting it on.

One time I had the guys at the surf shop apply one for me.  I did NOT like that.  I'm a perfectionist, and I like to make sure ALL the wax is off, and that it's PERFECTLY placed, and they kinda just put it on.  So, I'd much rather spend the time and careful placement to get it on perfectly straight and everything right.  I don't think it REALLY matters if it's THAT perfect, but I like it that way.  :)
