  1. That the human race is doomed.

    And

Getting government money to sit around all day and have your lab assistants l**k peanut butter off your balls is really fun.

  2. yeah, i had to do a research project on it for bio a month back.

its pretty cool actually, humans have been researching genetics for a long time, and in the early nineties (i think), the government wanted to commit to mapping the human genome, essentially finding all the chemical base pairs in our

DNA (there's about 3 billion of them!)

this is of course, would be a very difficult process. We now know that despite the extra funding, grants and advances in technology the project provided, we may never truly complete this project.

the project was set to be completed in the early 2000's, but that was a set date, so technically the project has been completed, even though the genome hasn't been mapped.

through the project scientists hoped to research, as well as the genome, the ethical issues involved with understanding human DNA. por example, if we understand human DNA, who owns the rights? how could genetic information be used ethically, should it be marketed at all? and above all; how much genetic tinkering is ok, when are we bordering on artificial selection, or playing god?

that was basically all i got from my research a while back. don't remember exact details, but the main point is the moral and ethical issues involved in the project.

  3. length of human genome

    wut makes it
