In my bathroom, there was a spider, between an inch and an inch and a half long including legs, about a centimeter and a half tall, with a thick body and legs--he was brown with black markings. It is driving me nuts! I have seen wolf spiders, and he was NOT a wolf spider. He was tan/beige, with black along his legs. He sure scared me! Please help me, what was it?

  2. There are many things it could be.  Grass spiders, Huntsman spiders, or house spiders could have that pattern.  How do you know it isn't a wolf spider?  Wolf spiders come in different color patterns too.  There are over 2,000 species of wolf spiders in the world, and probably about 20 or so lives in Indiana.

    Add details - Hehe, the spider world is a very diverse world, over 50,000 species worldwide.

    Here is a gallery of Wolf spiders of the United States and Canada (200 total known species, but the website given won't have all of them listed), aranged by Genus;

    Spider families are primarily classified by eye pattern, but other factors such as spinneret pattern and presence and structure of leg spines are a factor too.  Eye pattern can also vary within a family slightly.  Here is a good page with the eye pattern of several families of spiders;
