Or too young to have never seen? I grew up when it happened, and to this day I still find it simply AWESOME!!! Like a tremendous machine.......

Yes, I have heard of him.  My mom's FAVORITE racehorse EVER.  Next in line for her was Barbaro.

What tickled me about Secretariat was that after the Belmont Stakes race where he came in thirty lengths ahead of the pack - some smart A-- sports comentator said that "Secretariat wasn't such a perfect horse because he had a blemish on his left rear flank"!

I guess all of the other jockeys in the race - that were behind him had an opportunity of seeing this "blemish" as he rushed passed them and then go on to win the race!

Yep. I think that is the one horse name that everyone recognizes.

The younger generation would not know anything about it... they have their heads shoved into their cell phones, text messaging about who they saw at the mall and what shirts they are going to wear tomorrow. It's a disconnect from reality that is detrimental to our society... what happens when mommy and daddy aren't around to pay the cell phone bill? They have to find a job to pay for it themselves, but shock sets in when their employer allows no cell phone use at work!

Our youth is oblivious to history. Blame technology, no. Blame teachers, no. Blame? Maybe it's the parents who allow children to remain blissfully unaware of the word.

Secretariat, yep... I know.
