Does it really matter if you use guillemets (<<>>) or quotation marks (" ") or even both in French? I am learning French and I am not used to the guillemet system.

  1. Why would you want to learn French? Master English first and then study spanish if you are an American.

  2. i am in french emersion and i use quotations like people in english do. if your teacher wants you to use guillemets then you use them the exact same way.

  3. my friend does

  4. Technically, yes you do because that is the proper way in the language.

However, if you are just learning it, it won't matter as much because what you are learning within the language itself like the reading, writing, or speaking, those matter more than guillemets or quotes.

    Good luck!

    French is a great language!

J'aime francais beaucoup! Sorry no accents :)

  5. Use the guillemets rather than the quotation marks and if you are learning French, your instructor should have explained this to you.

  6. I went to a pure French school up until grade 8 and it was based in Ontario and it did not make a difference for us...We used the quotations and everyone that graduates from that school is considered legally bilingual by the Canadian Gov....

  7. Si madaam

  8. i think technically you're supposed to use guillemets but i think canadian french is less technical so you can probably use quotation marks
