  1. everyroom has a phone

  2. Yep

    And yep

  3. Yes, there are phones in every room. And yes, cell phones work as well. As for using the phone in your you are charged from the second you hit the last number. Depending where you are the rates start at $4.95 a minute and the connection is not that good.

If you really need to make a call buy a phone card and make your call while in port. There are lots of pay phones. You can also call collect from them.

  4. Yes, there are phones in each cabin.  You can use the phone to call anywhere in the world but it is super-expensive.  The rate is something like $5 per minute.

It is usually used for emergencies only.  Your cruise line will provide you with the emergency number for relatives to call you - but it is still expensive.

  5. Usually, but very expensive to use.  Should be for emergency  or urgent matters only.  Sometimes cheaper to use a land based phone in a port of call, if making any.

  6. Actually, cell phones do work, depending on the cruiseline. You might want to contact customer service for your cellphone provider and ask about international calling fees. Many cruiselines (Norwegian Cruise Lines is one of them) have satellite connections where you can use you cellphones right on the ship. Not sure if it's cheaper than using the phone in the rooms, but it's worth a shot. Also, you can usually buy a block of time to use in the internet cafes on board. Not cheap really either, but better than calling. Also, more cruiselines are moving to having wireless hotspots on board, so if you can bring a laptop, that could be an option too.

  7. Yes, there are phones that you can use.

  8. You do have phones in the room, it's ship to shore or satellite.  It is pricey.  Most cruiselines also now have internet access, which is pretty reasonable, like $10 per day.  What you can do is get a VOIP service like Skype and call from your computer.

  9. I'd say that depends on the cruise? Or did I miss something and do we have universal cruises now? But yes you should be able to phone and expect it to be a rip off.
