Beyond the fence the forest stood up spectrally in the moonlight, and through the dim stir, through the faint sounds of that lamentable courtyard, the silence of the land went home to one's very heart,--its mystery, its greantness, the amazing reality of its concealed life.

  1. do you mean you want it a little "simplified"?

Beyond the fence the forest stood basking/bathing in the moonlight, which seemed to be dancing to the faint, lonesome melody of the courtyard, the silence of the land hit one's heart with a bang-- its mystery, its greatness, the amazing reality of the life it was hiding.

  2. It's speaking of the beauty and wonder of a place that is just out of reach.

First he describes the forest as standing spectrally in the moonlight.  A spectre is a ghost or illusion.  He's telling us that this forest is something that he can see, but can't touch.  Then he turns it around and talks of the reality of the life concealed in those trees.  He is saying that even though he sees the forest as an illusion, it's more real to him than his "real" life inside the fence.
