Question:

Anybody tried preparation H on wounds?

Research has shown that application of Preparation H to healing wounds both speeds healing and reduces itching, so the horse leaves the wound alone. I haven't tried it, since I haven't had a wound to treat since I read about it. Has anyone else used it? What did you observe?

  1. well, i'll have to note this in my note book. . . .I started one with intersting tips. the only thing i've think i've used perparation H for some of answering some of the question in the HORSE section, does that count as using it on a horse?

*sry had to joke bout it*

  2. I haven't but will file it in the memory banks for future use. The anti-itch could be wonderful... don't you hate bandage chewers?

  3. I used it on my (rescued) miniature mare...she had dry itchy spots on her neck with no hair on them. So I got some Prep H and dabbed on them a few times a day and before the week was up she was growing new hair where the spots were. She had stopped itching it and since Prep H is a little greasy too, it helped the dry skin by moisturizing it.

I have also used it on a horse that rubbed parts of his mane out and it worked great for that too.

  4. NO there is a thing called SWAT. its a wound healer and a fly repellent. its amazing. and it works wonders!!

  5. I've not used it but herd that for both humans and animals.  I would however still use iodine, or another form of bacteria meds.  For swelling from what others say and what I've read sounds like it does the job.  I will note this and maybe give it a try, but I like my Nitrofurazone and swat combo:)

  6. Yes, I've used it. Prep H dehydrates the skin and causes swelling to go down fast. When a wound is swollen and hot it's harder for medication to work and Prep H will bring down the swelling pretty fast. Some people in the show circuit also use it on wind puffs even though it's only a cosmetic blemish.

It doesn't actually do any healing as much as people think, but it plays a huge role in helping alleviate pressure from swelling on the wound which helps bring down the heat. If you place on the wound and then come back 30 minutes later and treat the wound medically with iodine or such, it is easier to clean, medicate, and it will take away the itchy feeling of an open wound.

EDIT- I saw on a news segment once that men were rubbing prep H ALL over their bodies on spring break cause it would shrink the skin, make it shiny and give the appearance of toned muscles. I just hope the smell of ocean over turned the smell of them stinking like treated butt.

EDIT- There are a lot of things household use that are great equine use- diaper rash cream, foot powder, baby powder, and I've also found that The really strong dandruff shampoo is great for horses that have sensitive skin or scratches and shaving cream is great for getting stains and dirt out of the horses coat.

  7. No I haven't heard about this use.  I do have a friend who uses it to tighten up laugh lines, and she swears on it.

It's supposed to constrict and shrink irritating rectal tissue, ie, swollen *******.  I can think of a few trolls I'd like to bathe in it.
