I've heard about these things on other questions, exactly how do they help and would they work with other similar plants?

  1. Yes, I swear by them! They support the plant in an upright manner, make it easier to harvest, and make for a neater appearance. I have seen them (or similar items) used on many tall and/or spreading plants to add stability.

  2. They work well, you still have to go out regularly and keep the tomato vines into the cage.  You can easily make your own out of woven wire fencing or welded wire (concrete mesh).   Just make them cylindrical.  It works better if you drive a long stake next to the plant first and anchor the cage to the stake.

  3. well as the plant grows the stems grow through the cage and it gives them support. and yes they do work on other fruit baring plants.

you can get much information in this website, If you will check anyone blue link in website.

  5. I use them to start the maters but the fruit weight will collapse them and I end up using oak stakes to reinforce the cages. My maters are six feet tall now and the cages have disappeared. If it works out for you start with cages and be ready to build onto them.

  6. They are wire funell shaped cages that go around a plant with heavy vegetables to help hold up the plant when ripening I use them for beans peas tomatoes and peppers they are cheap

  7. I use them on tomato plants and any other plant that needs support.  I live in a windy canyon so they really help keep the plants upright and keeps the stems from breaking in the wind.
