  1. I know a guy with really severe dyslexia and he drives a bus for a living.  He had to memorize the driving manual by listening to it (www.rfbd.org --- they read it for him), but that's it.  He's fine about it.

  2. I had trouble due to not being able to read the signs to well, or I would misread the sign, often confusing left & right and had co-ordination problems. And this is not uncommon for some dyslexic to have problems.

I am now fairly confident behind the wheel, but my daughter is now having similar problems. I had know idea I was dyslexic until my daughter was diagnosed as being dyslexic.

Jackie Stewart a racing driver is also dyslexic, but he drives really well. But I imagine he initially had problems too.

  3. We would have no reason to be afraid to drive, has nothing to do with the way we see things more so the way we take them in with words etc. and the ways to put them together

  4. just like someone who is colorblind-people with dyslexia adapt

a person with dyslexia knows that a red sign with letters means STOP..

color blind people know red is on top

  5. No, I wasn't scared to drive. Obviously a red sign with white letters means stop, and the majority of road signs have pictures. No what does make me nervous is when I have to learn to drive somewhere NEW and I have to follw directions: "You go DOWN this road until Shaganappi Trail, then you turn LEFT. You head UP that way until Edgebrook Road, where you turn RIGHT, then you go STRAIGHT DOWN that way until Deerfoot Trail, make a LEFT there, and follow that road right UP until the Hillcrest Road. Turn RIGHT on to it, and my house is the 3 to the LEFT." That really stresses me out, but otherwise driving is fine.

  6. I have no problems with driving other than reading street names.  Things like stop signs and other warning you will just learn the shape and colour.  Street names when following directions can be a real pain.  But, i now have a GPS System, and that has solved that problem for me.
