Anyone's been to Göttingen (Germany) in Summer? I need some advice.?

I'll be going to Göttingen during Summer but I will arrive at Frankfurt instead of Hannover (someone picking me up). It will be my first destination (and first time) in Europe so I need all the advice I could get especially from anyone who's been there.

I'm learning some basic German just to get by and I'm pretty much clear of the customs at the airport and such.

And I'd like to know what the weather's going to be like, do's and don'ts, whereabouts can I find vegetarian food (I'm vegetarian), what are the interesting places to see, and generally what to expect.

I'm not so much into shopping though, just interested to know what a typical lifestyle there is like.

Fill me in :)

Danke.

  1. Göttingen ist a beautiful, relativ small town. I recommend to look in the official web site of the city (available also in English) where you can get a lot of information about what to do, places to visit etc.:

    http://www.goettingen.de/   (german version)

    http://www.eng.goettingen.de/  (english version)

Looking for restaurants in Göttingen, look in this web:

Just a sugestion: Göttingen is located near to the Harz mountains, try to plan a couple of days to visit them, they are beautiful and you find wonderful small towns with magical old inner cities as for example:

Quedlinburg: a city that belongs to the Unesco word heritage (Official web site in English is the following:

    http://www.quedlinburg.de/neu/englisch/

Wernigerode: The web site is not available in English, but I would bet that if you send an e-mail to the contact address, they will send you some information in your language. There is a beatiful palace that you can visit and the web is also available in English

    http://www.wernigerode.de/WRPortal/Stadt

    http://www.schloss-wernigerode.de/start....

I also recomend Goslar. More you can find more info here:

    http://www.goslar.de/englisch/index.htm

If you have time, try also to visit Celle and Hanover. You get more information here:

    http://www.celle.de/index_2.phtml?La=2&s...

    http://www.hannover.de/lang/en/index.htm...

If you do not have a car, you can also get in USA an Eurorail pass, that is a Rail ticket, that allows you to travel wherever you want withing a period of time (1 week, 1 month etc.) without any extra charges. The bus is also a good alternative if you are in a city.
