  1. Why do you want to do a 'virtual homeschool'?  You don't have to follow the National Curriculum if you're home educated so the whole online, following classes thing it totally optional. If you are sure that you want to follow that path then you just need to be de-registered from school (a letter to the school, be sure to get it signed for) and then sign up with an online company. There are a few over here or you could even pick a US one, it doesn't matter, unless you want to take GCSEs in which case stick to one in the UK.

OTOH you can just de-register and study whatever you want without any curriculum and then take GCSEs or A levels (or the new Pre-Us) when you feel like it, IF you feel like it.

Do you learn more? Well, yes, I think you do, because where you have some say in what you study there's a much greater chance that you will learn it, rather than memorise just long enough to pass a test and then forget it. For the same reason you can learn more things that are useful to you, rather than being what some government panel has decided that you should learn, knowing nothing about you and what you might want to do with your life.
