Question:

Anyone Else Nervous About Cheerios For Their Little One?

My boy is nearly 7 months old, and the dr. said I can start cheerios... I am so nervous that he will choke, but she said he won't because they have holes in the middle. I would like to give them to him so he can get used of a different texture in his mouth..But I am still a nervous wreck about it.. Has anyone else felt this way? and how did it work out for you? Also, can I give him Kashi Heart to Heart instead of "cheerios" brand? Thanks!

  1. Cheerios usually dissolve quite quickly in the mouth.  Try the Kashi brand to see if that's the same.

You 7 month old will LOVE cheerios.  Picking up those little rings one by one (or fistful by fistful) is great for their motor skill development.

    Go for it Mom!!

  2. put a cheerio on your tongue and get it a little wet with saliva.  it will dissolve into mush pretty quickly.

  3. I also felt this way!  I found at first that I would only give my children 1 at a time, because they would shove a whole fistful in!  Just make sure the first one is gone before you hand him another!  After a few feedings like this, it was OK to leave a few at a time on the tray.  Good Luck!  The cutest thing is when the cheerios stick to their faces!  Adorable!

  4. Buy him some Gerber Puffs; they dissolve in their mouth.

I gave my son the puffs before I introduced him to cheerios =]

  5. When i give my son Cheerios i squish them before i put it in his mouth and he loves it.

  6. i tried gerber puffs first. they seemed to dissove better to me. and my son loves them dearly.

  7. At 6 months I started my daughter on Gerber Puffs.  At 7 months I did the Gerber Grads Veggie Sticks and Cheerios.  Shes 8 months and has never choked, and she loves them.

  8. I was nervous too, but I have never had a problem with my son choking on the cheerios, and yes, Kashi is even better, healthier choice than even cheerios, so try it out mom, just stay there with him, let him get used to the new texture and make sure he has a drink available.  Good luck, (he will do just fine!!)

  9. I was also nervous about giving cheerios to my son as well because they are kind of hard. I started out with beechnut puffs because they have a hole in the middle as well but dissolve much quicker. Id say to start with those first and then see how he does with them. If he does fine, then try the cheerios.
