I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety, They gave me Xanax for panic attacks and Zoloft to take daily... I was just wondering if anyone has had any bad side effects while taking either one, or both together? Or is it pretty good and not many side effects...?

  1. I also have had panic attacks for many years.  Xanax is by far the best thing I've taken because it works really fast and it basically just calms your nerves.  Xanax is a fast-acting tranquilizer and is similar to Valium and Klonopin.  It takes effect in about 20 minutes and wears off after 4-5 hours.  They're fantastic for panic attacks and to overall calm you down, but over time they can be addictive so the Doc will probably only give you enough for a month or two while you get accustomed to the Zoloft.

Lots of doctors use Xanax or similar drugs as a "bridge" while people get used to an anti-depressant (like Zoloft, Celexa, Paxil, Prozac, etc).

Zoloft is an antidepressant and will take 2-3 weeks to begin working.  At first it can make you generally feel "wierd", it will often increase your anxiety (which is the reason for the Xanax at first).  Side effects are different in lots of people but mainly you hear about a little nausea, being really sleepy, etc.

Both drugs are extremely safe when used appropriately (ie. the directions on the bottle).

Also, both can make you extremely sleepy so be careful driving until you know how you will react.
