I have a 1/48 scale P-40 I might be willing to sell!

Good luck. According to http://www.warbirdalley.com/ there are currently about 150 P-51s, and 19 P-40s, that are airworthy. And assuming that one of the owners is willing to sell, it ain't gonna be cheap.
