  1. Mate its wicked. Population of about 1,000 but this really inceases in winter. Heaps of outdoor activities and Mt Hutt is right there. Couple of good little pubs. Friendly people. I will be going down in the next couple of months for a bit of snowboarding.

  2. Methven is one of those small rural towns that if you blink your eyes before entering it - you'll travel straight pass it without even seeing it. But, I can assure you that the locals are friendly, and most likely they pride themselves on what's called 'Southern hospitality'. Which may seem a little old fashion to most. Oh, and the area, there is plenty to do if you're not afraid to get off your backside and do a few amazing things like, skiing and snowboarding at Mt Hutt, trout or salmon fishing; there are also experienced guides available that can tailor make a hunting package for you, horse trekking, golf at the renowned Methven Golf Course or the highly rated High Country Golf Resort - Terrace Downs, and there is no shortage of scenic walks and nature tours in the Methven Area. For something more challenging head for the Mt Somers Conservation Area and one of New Zealand's top ten walkways - the Mt Somers Subalpine Walkway. This 17km walk can be done over two or three days.

  3. Yep, I live close by to Methven.

It's a really small town, but close to the mountains if you like skiing.

Theres not to much there...a few shops, pertrol station, groceries, pubs and a few 'clothes ect' shops. No department stores.

If you want more 'shopping' you could always go to Ashburton, its a lot bigger.

Anyway, its a quiet getaway, I think you will enjoy it, and if you get bored you could always take a quick trip to christchurch, but theres heaps of outdoor things to do.

outdoor activities include: hot air ballooning, scenic flights, heli picnics, jet boating, horse trekking, harness racing, white-water rafting, and of course skiing in winter. Dare yourself and experience the extreme views and adrenalin charge of a Tandem Skydive. Or you can relax and unwind  in the internationally renowned Methven Golf Course or the highly rated High Country Golf Resort - Terrace Downs

With a choice of lake or river fishing Methven is a central location to access great trout or salmon fishing spots. If you need some help, there are experienced guides available that can tailor make a fishing or hunting package to suit your skills or ambitions.

You will enjoy it....good luck with your trip!
