My family and I want to go on a cruise. I am wondering about how much money we should have if we want to go on an 8 night stay in a suite. There are 5 people in our family. Also, does anyone have a good cruise ship that was a wonderful experience? If you would like to email me with more information and stuff my email is snakeskin5368@yahoo.com. Thank you!

  1. Island cruises, aboard the Island Star.Brilliant time around the Med.Money wise on board hardly anything, just shore excursions ,also good value I thought.Done many many holidays but cruise is by far the best way to see the world. Good luck

  2. You dont need any spending money for cruises; everythings apart from the shops and alcohol is free. Cruises are the best holidays you can go on!

I suggest taking like 25 pound, enough to buy some soveneirs.

  3. I HAVE WENT ON CARNIVAL 2 TIMES NOW AND ON JULY 31ST I AM GOING AGAIN TO THE BAHAMAS! I WOULD BRING 500 TO 1,000 DOLLARS BEACUSE THERE IS GAMBLING PLUS THE EXCHURSINES (MISPELLED)LOL!  THEY ARE 150 A PERSON!!

  4. If you've never been on a cruise before, you'll need to do some research in order to sift through all the variables involved.  Where and when do you want to go?  What kind of ship [age, size, passenger type]?  What type of cabin and in what location?  How much do you want to pay?  What activity level do you want?  Etc, etc.

I'd suggest you get a book on cruising from your library or bookstore [they have a "Dummies" book if that's your style].  Once you have a general idea, then you can talk with a good travel agent - preferably with lots of experience cruising - who can help you make final plans.

You might also be interested in a website called CruiseCritic.com.  There you'll find "Boards", which are full of info from experienced cruisers regarding every aspect of cruising, and "Reviews", which have comments on every line and ship from both pros and members [the latter are especially helpful].  You might want to check out the selection of cruises at VacationsToGo.com - it's easy to navigate and you can view all the different ships and itineraries - even if you don't want to buy from them.

In general, a "mass market" cruise will cost about $100/person/day; you may even be able to book a "premium" cruise at that rate [Celebrity, Holland America and, some would say, Princess].  "Luxury" cruises will be much more.

There aren't many 8-day cruises.  Cruises are usually 7 days or 10 days or longer, although there are 3-4-day cruises.  A suite is the most-expensive cabin on the ship, but often do accommodate 5 guests [a suite would be > the $100/person/day].  The other types of cabin probably will not handle 5, unless one of them is an infant or toddler.

The person who said you need no spending money on a cruise is incorrect.  "Extras" on a cruise include:  soda/alcohol, spa services, excursions [whether you use ship tours or go on your own], casino and bingo, premium restaurants, tips [$10/person/day added to your account], etc.  Airfare is not included, of course.

Cruising is a wonderful vacation - you unpack once yet get to see many different ports [although only for a few hours each], no hassle over where to eat, lots of things to do,  children's programs, etc.

Good luck - I hope you find just the right cruise for you.

  5. Cost all depends on the cruise line that you'll sail on.

Princess has some real nice suites but might cost more than Carnival.

  6. I would suggest liberty of the seas. It has everything for kids, teens, middle aged and the elderly. It has:

    3 story dining room

    Casino

    Water park

    mini golf

    Surf simulator

    basketball court

    movie theater

    Ice skating rink

    Fitness center/ Boxing ring

    Spa

video game arcade for the kids

    Library/ internet cafe

tons of great restaurants, shops, bars, danceclubs, and broadway styled shows everynight.

Rooms also have a flat screen TV!

Also you probably do not need that much money. 100 bucks should be good.

  7. Check the cruises on the website www.tarzantravelandcruises.com.  The farther out you book your cruise, the better rates you will get.  Right now, 6-9 day cruises to the Caribbean out of Miami in September 2008 are running $499 - $750.  The price depends on where you go and what port you sail from.

My favorite ship is the Carnival Conquest, sailing from Galveston to the Western Caribbean.  It is a huge ship, with a great crew and it is lots of fun.  We did a cruise over Halloween, and the costume party was great!

Have fun.  Please email me at terrynjane@tarzantravelcruises.com if you would like assistance with your booking.  I'd love to help!
