Anyone been on an Alaskan cruise?

Question

I would like to take my husband on an Alaskan cruise for our wedding anniversary in September. I am thinking way ahead so I can plan this right :-)

If any of you have advise on planning one, I'd love to hear it

Ms; if you can take the 11 day cruise tour.(Princess) It is out of this world.7 day day Norwegain or Princess offers the best rates. Book early. Sept. all shops have 50% off sales. If a member of AAA they can save you alot. Travel agent most have never been and only know what they read & hear. In Ketchikan go to end of pier to Salmon Mall lots of shops and everywhere you stop Alaska shirt Company. Do not buy on ship twice as much. Inside cain will save you each $500.00 after all you will not be in the room that much. Enjoy.

I'm an agent and the first thing I'd suggest is that you use a travel agent to help you plan, make suggestions, and handle all the details.  If you haven't made reservations yet, do so as soon as possible.  I booked a group to Alaska in Sept 2006 for June 2007 and the ship was already 65% booked. Sept. is a very popular time for and Alaska cruise so please make it a point to do this as soon as possible for an early booking discount and also to be sure you have a variety of cabins to choose from.

September is very late in the season. We went mid August and were one of the last ships to go and also missed most of the good stuff-whales were already farther south and the arms were iced over so we could not go back into them. It was already snowing in Juneau when we were there. Do yourself a favor and go earlier. July is prime season, but book now! most of these cruises book up to a year in advance.

no not yet..many side adeventures you can take...like a plane ride over the wilderness and also helicopter rides...check with the travel agencey that you are boking the cruise with..i want to go one day

While we haven't been on one we have family members and friends that have been on one.  

I know that September is late to start traveling to Alaska.  Talk to a travel agent (They do not get paid extra, they are paid by airlines and cruise companies)  Find out when the cruises to north.  That would be a start.

My brother drives from Florida with his motor home there ever 3 years, he says they NEVER leave Fl. later than July 1st preferably by June 1st.  The later you go the colder it is.

My best friend and her Husband took a cruise after flying to Seattle.  They took an economy cruise and said next time they would absolutely upgrade to a room with a balcony for the whale watching coming and going.  Even in the summer they had to carry warm clothes.  They had to always go to the deck to whale watch.

Any and all side trips, whale watching boat trip and side trips to glaciers and Denali are separate add on prices.

My friends economy trip was about $1000. each plus airfare to Seattle.  Hopefully there is a little helpful information here to get you thinking.

Go ahead and take your husband, you'll greatly enjoy the cruise. The best months for it are July and August. Bon voyage!
