I am going there in May and was wondering if its worth the detour, is it as pretty as it looks in photos? Is it worth it to visit all 5 cities, or are there some that can be skipped. Is it expensive? Best place to stay? Best place to eat? What do you do at night?? And how is the train ride over there, is it easy to get to and from Cinque Terre to the other major cities...Milan, Rome?

Thanks!

  2. I went on a trip to Italy and visited Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, Verona, Geneva, and the Cinque Terre and by far the most beautiful was the Cinque Terre. I stopped in two of the towns and then rode the ferry to see the other three at a distance. I'd recommend  taking a walking tour on the one that has the lover's walk. It's beautiful. http://public.fotki.com/Pixiedustprinces... Those are my picture of Cinque Terre. There are also a few pics on pages 9 and 11.

  3. I was just talking with a friend about Cinque Terre last night - he spent 3 months in Europe and said that Cinque Terre was his FAVORITE place, by far.  From what I gather, definitely worth the detour.  My husband and I are planning a 2 week trip to Europe and have thought about rearranging our schedule to fit it in, based on what our friend told us.

  4. YES! i have been there (2005)

Yes its worth the detour. It is a stunning as it looks in photos! AND it has a different vibe to the bigger cities which is also worthwhile.

You don't need to visit all 5 towns, but you can walk between them all or catch the train if you wish.

It is a little expensive for accomodation, we paid 20 € pp p/night for a dorm accomodation in a hostel in Riomaggiore, which was on the higher end of what we paid while on our trip.

There is VERY good foccacia to eat there (cheap)

there are a few bars around at night time.

    the train ride is fine.
