I am going to Irun in Spain and was just wondering if anyone has been there. Is it on the coast. If so, what is the beach like...are the waves good. And, what is the town like?

  1. I've only passed through.  Had to change trains there a couple of years ago and wandered around the town for a bit.  It's on the coast, and a nice little place.  Don't know about the waves, but that part of the coast has a good surfing reputation.  If not much is happening in Irun go up the coast a bit towards Biarritz or further into Spain towards San Sebastian or Bilbao. Travel is quick and easy on the trains.

  2. Only passed through it, well through the disused border control nine years ago. It's on the French - Spanish border but not really on the coast.

  3. Most people only change trains there.  I did too. It used to be that you HAD to change trains at the border, because Spain has a different gauge track than the rest of Europe.  They have invented a way to chage the carriage of the wheels, so you don't actually have to get off anymore, but I don't think there's a whole lot there, nor do I believe there is any beach.
