  1. Train enthusiasts like to visit Karlsruhe because of a "tram-train" connecting it with other cities. You get on a train e.g. in Pforzheim train station - and at a certain point, the train enters the Karlsruhe city and runs as a streetcar. It is not as unique any more as it used to be some 10 years ago, but still worth seeing. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karlsruhe_m...

"Ordinary" tourists like to visit the castle and constitutional court (Bundesgerichtshof). Like most other German cities, you will be done with it in a few hours - and you can continue to other nearby places, such as Baden-Baden.

Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karlsruhe and enjoy your trip!

  2. I am (still  )  there  because  of my  job

  3. I go there every year in Spring when they have the 'Learntec', which is a big e-learning trade fair.

I always stay in a hotel close to the city center and go around by tram, which is very convenient. The city is not very big, so you get everywhere really quick. It's old part is quite nice, but I guess it's not a typical 'tourist' city.
