  1. Kenya is safe at the moment and all operators are still taking passengers. The foreign office advise on the worst at all times and are there to help. They make sure that you know probably the worst case. If you look up other destinations you will find the same. As long as the foreign office is not advising against all travel to Kenya then you will be fine with regards to insurance reasons.

Kenya is one of the most beautiful and friendly places I have been lucky enough to visit. It is somewhere you will want to go back to time and time again.

All countries have their rebel groups which cause trouble. Spain gets it every year and the Spanish groups target toursits ( in Kenya they didn't target tourists ) but they always say it is safe to travel.

Like any country be sensible. Don't carry around loads of cash and flash lots of jewelery about the place. keep valuables in the safe and most of all enjoy yourself.

  2. dont pay much attention to the foreign office website.  I frequently travel to an area which it says to avoid all travel to, based on out of date (by a few years) rebel movements.  I've never had any problems.

From what I know Kenya, particularly Mombasa should be ok.  I've travelled a lot in Kenya and Uganda in the last 2 years nad never had any problems.

  3. i just came back from kenya and I was having the same trouble you are right now, those foreign ppl kept saying the same thing and I went stayed in many of the "worst" parts of kenya, I wlked everywhere I went and took mataus (city minibus) everywhere also. and things are great in kenya. I believe your safer there than in this country.(U.S) if you have anymore questions feel free to email me... diannaangulo@yahoo.com

  4. I have friends in Mombassa and they say it is nowhere near as bad as the Foreign Office advice makes out. They are Kikuyu and so had  a very torrid time for several months. However the violence and rioting has abated now.

They say food is terribly expensive and there are some outlying areas like Eldoret still not safe to travel in but Nairobi and Mombassa are fine, especially for foreigners.

Lucky you. It's a beautiful country and Kenyans are amongst the friemdliest, most open people on earth. I hope their leaders can work out a truce which they can all live with.Have a wonderful time and

    hakuna matata!

  5. we have been three times this year already, feb, part of march and april, and 2 weeks in july, we are also going again in october with our children and granchildren, we always go to bamburi in mombasa, we have never experienced any problems or felt threatened, so no worries

  6. Hi, My hubby and I were in Kenya in Jan/Feb of this year - right in the middle of the troubles. We were absolutely fine. 99% of the people there just want a peaceful, happy life and as usual, it is the few extremists who cause all the bother. I'd stick to areas such as Nairobi/Mombasa and listen to the advice that the locals will give you - they offer a much more balanced view than the sensationalised news reports on TV.

If you decide to go, relax and have fun! My hubby is Kenyan and if we had the money right now, we'd be there in a second!!
