  1. Hello! Well, the train situation in Medford these days is a bit unique. The only Amtrak passenger service to Medford is a once daily thruway southbound bus connection which links up to the various train routes in Sacramento. From Sac you can catch the California Zepher, the San Joaquins, The Capitols, or the Coast Starlight lines. As for the thruway bus service, I have found it to be really comfortable and usually has plenty of seats. If you need to travel northbound the only way is to get to Eugene, OR by Greyhound where you could then connect to the Cascades line which runs up to Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, BC Good luck!

  2. Yes indeed.

Although Ashland, Oregon, was the away from home terminal for crews operating out of Dunsmuir, California on the old Siskiyou Subdivision of SP's Oregon Division for many, many years, for the last two years or so before the line was sold off to a short line the away from home terminal was moved to Medford.

Most of what comes out of Medford are timber and timber related products.  Loads are gathered up and sent southward to Black Butte, California, or are moved northward to Eugene, Oregon.

It's all local freight, and getting anywhere by hopping a train will take longer than you could even walk to where you're going.  Besides that, riding the trains is both illegal and dangerous.

    My advice..........buy a bus ticket.
