I leave June 8th for 5 days at Sandals in Montego Bay for my honeymoon. I was wondering in anyone had anything that they did or seen that you can tell me about. We have no idea what we are going to do when we get there, so any ideas and suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

  1. I know the Sandals Resort in Negril is beautiful so the Sandals Resort in Montego Bay is also beautiful. There will be lots to do. Everything that you can possibly think of. Trust me Sandals will fulfill all your needs and you can definitely go on a cruise.

  2. I have been to Jamaica 5 times it is truly paradise ,I adopted a girl 16 years ago from there she is a true joy it is the best vacation destination you could have picked

  3. Patticha. Did u say there were no disposable diapers on the island? The island of JAMAICA? R U AN IDIOT?!!!

  4. We love Sandals at Montego Bay and Negril.  Both are different.  Have been at the Montego Bay one 5 times.  Sometimes we leave the resort and sometimes not.  It's beautiful; the people are so friendly and the service is great.  I have gotten the most gorgeous jewelry in Jamaica.  I love the rings there.  A drive up to Ocho Rios would be great.  You can have lunch at one of the other Sandals.  Do the dinner at Sandals Inn. (boat ride/Chinese food)

Don't overpack; things are quite informal.

    Have a great relaxing time.

  5. I was there last November and we went on a jungle canopy tour that is ziplines through the trees. It was well worth the money and was a great way to actually see what the country looks like past the tourist areas.

  6. Stay on the resort--the "local life" can be a little depressing. It's a very poor country.

  7. Ricks cafe go for sunset and watch the insane cliff divers

the pork pitt has great jerk chicken

  8. Its beautiful there. I went there for one day. got a day pass. Everything will be there. Restaurants, beach, everything. You can also check with front desk to find out what excursions they have available, Like going sightseeing, going to dunn's river falls, ocho rios, and all sorts of places. There will be an extra charge for that. When you go, you dont have to worry about anything. Security is extra tight, so you dont have anyone walking in and about hotel property who is not authorized. The only thing you need to worry about is the bills when you come back from your trip.

You will enjoy it. I dont know what you wont have when you get there. There is also a deal Sandals have where you stay at one Sandals but you can go to the other Sandals to hangout if you so desire. I dont know if you are staying at the one with the Thai restaurant on a private island. If you are staying there make sure you go over there. With Sandals, you get your money's worth. Too bad I couldn't afford to stay there so I went to Holiday Inn Sunspree. If I got excellent quality treatment at Holiday Inn, I can attest to the fact that you will really get excellent service there.

Oh, and make sure you go to Margueritaville, a great restaurant and club that overlooks the beach. Make sure you go there. Cant go to Mobay and not go there. Enjoy your trip, and congrats on your wedding.

  9. I have been to Jamaica several times on cruises, both Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.  When you go to Jamaica you have to be very careful where you go because you can get ripped off or worse.  So stay for the most part on the resort and if when you go try to get a taxi at the hotel and ask if the driver will wait for you where ever you go so you can use their services to get back.  make sure that you know how much the fare will be before you go.

As for places to go and things to do, the two main attractions that I know of are Dunn's River Falls and the river rafting trip (not rapids) on the Martha Brae or some other river.  I have done both and really enjoyed them.

  10. Congratulations on your marriage, You will have a blast in Jamaica, It is a great place I cant wait to go back, Montego Bay is very busy it has lots of shopping and great places to eat one is the Pork Pit best jerk chicken and pork from a resaurant.Mostly just enjoy yourself there are things to do and go see Dunns river falls,Green grotto but if all you do is take a senic drive you will enjoy that,If you get the chance to go thru the roadway called Fern Gully go there is lots of vendors on the side of the road especially if you want some hand carved statues this is the place to go and it smells incredible is is so fresh and cool driving thru there it is east of montego bay by I think about an hour anyways congrats on the wedding and enjoy each other, and add paradise for a perfect honeymoon!

  11. Patticha: Are you serious? Did you said don't interact with the kids because you can get pissed on?   You should be embarrassed....

There are some really fantastic caves and local waterfalls on the way towards Negril. I went to Dunn's River Falls on Ocho Rios a long time ago and wasn't THAT impressed. I had more fun at the local falls and the rivers where people are cooking, playing music, smoking and drinking. Another good day is Bob Marley's Birthplace in Nine Miles.

  12. The Straw Market is great fun. It's difficult to decide what to buy and lug home.

Take the day trip up to Ocho Rios. Climbing the Falls was  one of the highlights of our trip.

Expect to be followed by locals who want to braid your hair. Small children will follow you everywhere looking for attention or maybe a handout. Don't agree to anything, go off anywhere or give money to anybody.

Very small kids do not wear diapers. There are no disposable diapers on the island (or there weren't when I was there, and laundry facilities are not readily available). So be careful if you interact with any of the little ones. It's quite common to get peed on.

The resort is protected and insulated. In fact, you could spend the 5 days there and never leave the resort. By all means do take a few day trips. At least get into the Market and go up to Ocho Rios.

    It's a beautiful country. You'll love it!

  13. i went over december.  it was great =] kinda humid though. there was like a local mall thingy it wasnt like a mall mall but it had some stores. alot of jewlery stores.  the resorts are fun =] nice pools. and the beach of course is amazing.

  14. We've been there 3 times, just long enough to take a bus to Negril each time.  We really like Negril over Montego, but i'm sure you'll have fun.  Don't listen to the people that say stay on the resorts, it's really nice to experience the real Jamaica, you just have to have an open mind.

  15. I live in Montego Bay Jamaica, this is a great place don't be fooled,Sandals is a great resort expect good things,Sandals is about 5 mins from the airport. If u come to jamaica u have to go to ocho rios and climb Dunns River Falls,You have to go to Negril and hangout at Rick's Cafe' and check out the beaches,if u want duty free jewellery there is the City Centre in Mobay,If u want liquor wait till ur going back to buy it at the duty free liquor shop in the departure lounge area. You can go to the craft market for souveneirs sold by the locals ,if u are going to buy anything bargain with them don't accept their first price. You can also check out the Coral Cliff gaming lounge which is across from Margueritaville to get ur slot machine action on.You can also arrange with ur hotel to go to Margueritaville on the hip strip to party and arrange for them to pick u up at a time convenient to u.Montego Bay,Ocho Rios and Negril are the best parts in Jamaica for tourists, the roads to get to these areas are immaculate u'll have no problem travelling around these parts.
