  1. I was stations in Oahu, for about 3 years in the early 90s. I went back in 98 for my honeymoon.  Beautiful island, I recommend North Shore, Arizona Memorial, and of course a luau.  Have fun and enjoy, you will not be disappointed.

  2. Oahu is BEAUTIFUL. Went there on my honeymoon. Do not miss the North Shore. Be sure to drive around the ENTIRE island. Don't just focus on Honolulu/Waikiki.

  3. I have been there many times, in fact I was in the travel industry and never once flew over the islands, I come from Australia and have always broken the flight there, even went on a 1 month - all island holiday as well.

Oahu is whatever you want it to be,   shopping is great, night life is great, surfing is great, relaxing is super, proximity to other islands is easy and cheap, food is cheap and the variety is endless,   accommodation is cheap ----- tip---- if you have a business card don't pre book your accommodation, you can get great "rack" or door rates once you are there,  just ask for a deal, that is unless you want to stay at the Royal Hawaiian or the Hilton or the like, you can get good deals,

wish I could afford to go there one more time in my lifetime

enjoy whatever you wish of the islands,      but make sure you try the Kona Coffee,   coconut flavoured coffee.

    Cheers

  4. I grew up on Oahu, my family now lives there, I live on the big island Hawaii, and have been here for over 40 years. I f you had a pick of the islands, Molokai is very nice, the old Hawaii, miles of deserted beaches, Maui is nice but not as it used to be, Hana is ideal there, Hawaii, the big island is cool, not many beaches, but you can see the volcano ooze its lava out from a couple feet away, Kauai is nice but its also the rainiest spot in the world, has a mini grand canyon. On Oahu during the winter the waves on the north shore have got up to 90 ft, but its not a place I would stay, Turtle bay is way expensive 400 bucks plus a night. there a bay called Kaneohe, in the middle of that bay is a sand bar, theres a sailboat that can take you out to it, go to Heeia kea pier at the end is a store ask them for Captain's bob sail they leave about 10 am, you can take The Bus there from waikiki its the #55 bus, same  bus for circle island, over on that side is also a huge Mormon church, Polynesian cultural center, stop by the Turtle Bay Hilton and walk north on the beach, on the south is Hanama Bay great for snorkeling, but I'm at the best spot for that on the big island, going past Hanama bay you'll come by Blow hole where the ocean shoots up through a hole much like a gyser then you'll pass by Sandy beach, it ok but hard to wash off the sand because of the waves breaking on shore, farther down is Sea life Park and across is Makapuu Beach, strong undertow here, you have to be a strong swimmer for this beach, while on the Leeward side (Honolulu-Waikiki) check out the Honolulu Harbor near the Aloha Tower, in downtown Honolulu, Ala Moana shopping center is one of the biggest malls in the country, used to be the biggest. all in all there is alot people on Oahu, traffic is non-stopon the Leeward side. Oh and Sahri dont know tyhe weather to well it only gets up to the high 80's seldom going into the 90's, you want humid? go to Fort Lauderdale the worst in the country, not like here for there is always a nice cool breeze 90% of the time, Aug-sept are the warmest months, and the parked car? Probly didn't know how to park in the first place

  5. Our daughter has been twice on business. She said it was

too hot and sticky all of the time. The only relief was in the

pool or ocean. But it is pretty. They swam with the turtles in

Turtle Bay, and enjoyed that. And there is some ancient tribal area where they showed that the early Hawaiians were canabilistic, like some of the other islanders. In that eating the hearts of their enemies, they would be the stronger for eating them. Taking their enemies life forces to blend with theirs. The Samoans did that also in ancient times. Otherwise there are umpteen tourist shops with the same for sale as anywhere else. And food and entertainment is high priced.

Also the Hawaiian cops do not like mainlanders, so they

are quick to ticket rental cars. My daughter got her car

involved when someone hit her car and drove off. And the

cop tried to tell her it was her fault. And she wasn't around.

She learned the hard way, before being told about how it is

for a 'mainlander' over there. So beware of cops.

  6. Of all the tropical islands I have been to in the world, Oahu is my least favourite.  I could see that it probably was very nice once.  Now it is over-developed, over-crowded,  over-commercialized and incredibly touristy.  There are so many better options in the world.  Check out Fiji, Cook Islands, Koh Samui, Phuket, Langkawi to name a few.  I guess if you like shopping malls, overcrowded beaches and all the American fast food restaurents to be part of your tropical island experience then you might like Oahu.

  7. I have been there for my honeymoon.  The North Shore has a lot of scenic natural beauty even more than Maui.  Most people only see Honolulu which is more commercial but if you go to the North Shore there is breath taking beauty.  Nice Island choice, you will not be disappointed.

Have fun and take as many pics as possible you will always cherish it..
