Anyone been to Salamanca, Spain?

I am thinking about spending a summer abroad in Salamanca this year.

I was wondering what it was like?

I know it's a college town but what are the fun things to do there?

I am 16.

What is the weather like during the summer?

Anything else?

THANKS!

  1. YOU WILL HAVE A BLAST!!!  Do it!   Don't pass up this opportunity!

Whether your goal is to polish up your Spanish a bit (don't expect to come back too fluent, but it's a good start) or just to experience something new, you will have the time of your life!  (never been to Salamanca, but, yeah, I know).

Weather?  a bit cooler than the rest of Spain, but pretty hot.  To compare, just look at the temperature charts on one of the climate sites.

  2. You're 16 now and will turn 17 while you're there. Yes, Salamanca does have a college-town feel - with LOTS and LOTS of foreigners there to study Spanish so you'll be in good company. This can be good and bad. Good because you'll have instant friends. But bad because you're likely to mainly speak to others in English rather than in Spanish.

It's hot and dry in summer but you're at the age where it won't bother you much. You'll have a great time day after day. You can go to the movies, attend art gallery displays, get to know the old town - pretty much do all the same things you'd do in any other city in Spain (or the world).

Also consider Granada City in Andalucia for your Study Abroad year. It also feels like a big college town but less so for foreigners. And, in my opinion, Granada City is much prettier than Salamanca because you have the mountains, the Alhambra, Albayzin/Sacromonte, and all those wonderful green parks to stroll around for hours.

    Enjoy and good luck!
