  1. We went there last November on the Carnival Conquest...it was great if you like history and all that...it's about a 9-hour adventure so it will take up most of your time in port. The ruins are fantastic and the guides are friendly. It can also give you ideas about what you might want to do in the future if you take an extended vacation in Mexico.

  2. I went to Talum two years ago. If your are into Mayan ruins, these are not the best but is the only one on the coast and is still an active archeology site. If you are on a Carnival Cruise all the water that you swim in is seawater. Most importantly DO NOT BUY EXCURSION TICKETS ON THE SHIP!!!!!  You can get them off the ship for way cheaper.  Example, Our ship was going to stop in Grand Cayman. Biggest attraction swim with the stingrays on the ship the tickets were $120 on the island we got our ticket for the exact same thing for $45 each so traveler be aware.

  3. I loved my trip to Talum. I was on the Royal carb ship and took an excursion. We Took a very choppy water taxi ride for 30 min and then a bus ride for 30 min. Once we got these it was amazing. The guide told us so many interesting facts. It was very hot there and they provide you with umbrella on the excursion to keep the heat off. I would wear swim trunks too, becuase after the tour you can walk down to the beach and it is beautiful.. Have a great time!

  4. I went to Tulum a year ago.  I really enjoyed it, but then I'm kind of into archeology.

One thing I also picked up while cruising...most cruises have at least one stop at "less nice" port.  I would make sure you book an excursion for that port rather than hanging out around the port.  Costa Maya is a prime example.  It was built as a tourist trap and it's cheap for the cruiselines to port there, but it is basically like pulling a bus up in front of a Walmart.  Rather than hanging out at "Walmart", I'd book an excursion so you could actually get out and do something fun.
