I am from Utah & considering a move to Wisconsin or Minnesota. What are the main differences I might notice between the two?

  1. I've visited all three states and have a nephew that lives in Wisconsin.  I personally liked Utah the best of the three.  Surprised you want to move from such a lovely state.  Anyway,  Wisconsin is very liberal.  Underage kids can drink in a restaurant if their parents are present, for example.  You don't need auto insurance there, either.  It's not mandatory like it is in Indiana (where I live) or Illinois (where my sister lives.  I believe Wisconsin has a higher cost of living than Utah.  My nephew and sister say the people are crazy up there and don't know how to drive.  His wife likes it there, though.  They live in Kenosha.  As for Minnesota, they have some of the best health care centers in the country.  Like the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.  I've been to Rochester and seemed like a nice town.  Also been to the Minneapolis/ST. Paul area a few months ago.  There's plenty to see and do there.  I would tend toward moving to MN, but that's just my opinion.  It seems like a nicer place overall, and I think some of the towns and cities have been named best places to live in some surveys.

  2. The person above me is crazy. Sorry. But Wisconsin is not very liberal, maybe compared to Utah, but its only liberal in the urban areas (most of southeastern Wisconsin). I travel to Wisconsin often (I live in Chicago). It's nice, but I would recommend moving to Madison or Milwaukee. Middleton, a suburb just outside Madison, was ranked the number one place to live in the United States by CNN Money. It's inexpensive, safe, really nice, great for finding a job, and (if this applies to you) great for families. Madison is planning a brand new public transportation system that will run commuter trains out to Middleton. Madison is a fast-growing city, one of the fastest growing in the Midwest (fastest growing large city for sure). The population is relatively young and trendy, but not s****.. Their very liberal, but very down-to-earth and normal. The person above me is right about the progressive drinking laws in Wisconsin. That caught me by surprise a few years ago when I was visiting Madison. It's a great law though, because it encourages parents to educate their children about alcohol in a safe environment instead of having them learn on their own and binge.

The one downside of Madison is that it's cold, much colder than Chicago (If I were in your position I would move to Chicago because I like big cities and cold weather bothers me). Minnesota is waay colder than even Madison. It's also a very liberal state, more liberal than Wisconsin (excluding maybe Madison).

Hands down, I would definitely move to Madison, Middleton if you have a family, downtown if you don't.
