Anyone been to jamaica? best time/ place to go please?

we are thinking of going on holiday to jamaica. there would be two adults and 1 child aged 11. could anyone tell me is this a child friendly place please? what are the best areas to go, what is the best time of year to go, attractions etc? any advice greatly appreciated. many thanks
