Anyone been to lourdes,whats it like? an idea of what to expect please?

I agree with Ingrid. This year I cycled past Lourdes while on holiday in the area. I found it very touristy, a bit tacky even. There are trillions of shops selling all sorts of religious articles, to me it seemed it was all about making money out of devotion. But my parents (who are devout catholics) really loved it when they went there a few years back, it was a very special experience for them.

My wife went last year said it was a fantastic experience. She went with a large group from Scotland. She stayed at the Hospital not one of the hotels as she sometimes requires Oxygen. The Hospital is run by Note Dame Cathedral in Paris. The social side of the trip was great. The trip also included a day in the Pyrenees. The airport is only about 10 miles from Lourdes, So no long transfer times. Hope this helps and enjoy your pilgrimage

I've been and it is a wonderful place. You must go to the torch light procession at night time, a very memorable experience.

You must also try the baths there. You come out almost dry from them.
