Anyone been to the Barcelo Tucancun in Cancun?

Going there 22nd July for two weeks. What's it like? Also is the beach outside the hotel nice?

They will give you ideas for fun too like:

Definately the Swim with Dolphins, this is fantastic especially if you go to Dolphin Discovery on Isla Mujeres, as you have a 40 minute boat ride there and back with open bar and entertainment.

The Captain Hook Pirate ships are another fun thing to try.

A Jungle tour through the mangroves, with snorkelling over the Coral reefs.

If you´re into diving, then Call Ben Mooney at http://www.mayanaquadive.com as he knows some great dive sites.

Xcaret is a wonderful day out, as you get to enjoy an ecopark, with dolphins, turtles ect and then get to watch probably the best show in the whole of Mexico at night.

A catamaran trip with http://www.cancuncatamarans.com is a must, a day sailing and snorkeling, with buffet lunch on Isla Mujeres, open bar, a shopping trip and the chance to have your picture taken holding a live shark.

At night, try the Cancun Party Hopper, there are now 2 different versions going to different bars, and they are great fun.

Hello, I've been twice once in 2000 and again in 2002, its a nice hotel, food is nice too although I would go out a couple of times as it does start to taste the same.  Bubba Gumps is nice and the Outback.  Not much action in the evenings only the nightly entertainment which is a little poor and the bar which has no air con and no entertainment....  go out a few nights, Coco Bongos is brilliant and a must!  If you are going swimming with dolphins then the waterpark does a great trainer for the day and you get loads of interaction with the dolphins.  Pirate ship is a must too - its really good.  The beach outside the hotel is nice, beware the water is really rough.....  you'll end up spending the most time by the pool though as you cant get drinks at the beach.....  All in all I liked this hotel (although I went to the Barcelo Costa Real in 2006 - thats lovely) and would recommend the Tucancun to you.  You'll have a great time - lucky you, I'm jealous!  xx

Tucancun is a very middle of the road choice. It is a three star property in my opinion. It is a bit dated however the service more than makes up for what it lacks in pizazz. The beach is nice but has gotten smaller due to beach erosion. There is a big push going on now to dredge sand to replenish all of the beaches.

I went in 2004 and it was between that hotel and another. We chose the other purely because of cost but having looked, I think your's was better. If the beach isn't all that (ours wasn't particularly lovely!), you can take a short bus ride or maybe even walk to the city beach which has the best beach in Cancun - only down thing though you had to pay to get in but it was well worth it!
