We had a journey home from Disneyland Paris, and there was a security breach on the French side. The train was delayed by 2 and half hours. We had 2 young children and did not get home until 12.15.

So they told us that Eurostar would offer everyone on the train a complimentary journey one way.

So we tried to get this today, and we had to go to Ebsfleet (they told us to do that on the phone as we wanted to go Wednesday). Got to Ebsfleet and they checked the details on the computer and they was told that as it was a security breach there is no compensation, and if there had a been it would of only been half price compensation.

So has this happened to anyone, going to ring them tomorrow.

I had a feeling this would happen.

  1. We got stuck in the tunnel once, due to freezing snow in northern France melting in the warmth of the tunnel and frying the electrics. This was after the previous train was cancelled and the later one arriving late. Net result we arrived at Waterloo over 6 hours late. They handed out claim forms as we disembarked which I duly posted off. I also sent off a separate complaint letter due to other unacceptable circumstances on the same journey. Got two free returns - one from the claim form; the other from the letter!

I'm surprised they would not give any compensation for a security breach. Normally "acts of God" are excluded, but if a 3rd party is involved, you complain to Eurostar, not that 3rd party. It's then up to Eurostar to make any complaints to recover any losses it made.

I suggest you write to Eurostar explaining the situation and hope for the best. Sounds like it wasn't their fault though.

  2. I think you should be asking the French Governement for compensation as it was their fault for the security breach. Having said that being a national government they wouldn't give compensatio anyway.

I had a similar problem when I had to ask for a refund from Transpennine Express as my friend had left university so their was no need for the train ticket. Still waiting for the refund.....
