Question:

Anyone birth with midwife in hospital?

It seems most of the information I've found is either doctor/hospital or midwife/home. I'll be delivering in a hospital with a midwife in a group practice with midwives and doctors. I'll be allowed to birth in water and do mostly whatever I feel like (I think). Does anyone have any stories to share about their experience?

  1. I had my daughter 2 yrs ago in a hospital with a group of midwives that practice with that hospital. I found that they were very personable, caring, understanding, and importantly, respected my wishes to have a natural/drug-free and intervention-free birth, which meant not being constantly offered drugs or epidurals. Also, they had some great suggestions for naturally getting my labor going when it was stalling and didn't freak out that it was taking a long time. I didn't get a routine IV - i simply said I didn't need it and would not want anything unless medically necessary for the health & safety of me & my baby, and that was enough for them not to pressure me. I felt that I was in control, but I also had done enough reading to know what my options were, so i felt prepared enough to make good decisions - and my husband was there to support me. I am seeing the midwives again for my second this time, too!

  2. No stories to share about my experience really because I ultimately had to have a C-section. HOwever, I have friends who have used midwives in the hospital and all had good experiences. The practice we worked with had doctors and midwives and even though I had a C-section the midwives checked on me repeatedly through my hospital stay after the delivery -- they were wonderful then and anytime they checked me before delivery. I would highly recommend that anyone consider using their services.

  3. water is very good maybe the best i think. go for it.

  4. Here in Sweden, doctors do not attend routine births and only attend if there is an emergency. Midwives deliver all babies here and I thought the two that were with me when I had my children were brilliant.
