Hi, I'm an American with Irish descent, who lives in a community where almost everyone's grandparents or great grandparents were born in Ireland, and everyone is getting drunk just because of Saint Patrick's day? And everyone is calling themselves Irish, while I believe that they are "Posers" and just because they come from Irish descent doesn't mean that they're Irish and it annoys me so much!!!! Any input?

  1. i'm real irish.it's just an excuse to have a laugh and get drunk(which the irish do more than anyone, but not as much as the stereotype suggests).and yes it does annoy me a bit when american people who have an irish great, great, great grandad claim to be irish although it's grand if they just say that they come from irish descent - because that's true.

  2. Don't you take our stereotype away from us.

    Man i'm wasted.

  3. Yes...born in Waterford, have lived here all my life!

  4. im RUSSIAN/canadian and i get shittfaced on st paddys.

but aye,  i do agree with you. it pisses me off to when people consider themselves irish when their grandpa once shat on irish soil for example.

    cheers.

  5. Yeah, they're Posers indeed.. Pseudo-Irish, if anything.. Not even close to the real thing.. Irish-Americans, etc..

Now, me for instance.. Born in Ireland, Irish citizenship.. I'm the real thing..

  6. nope can't say I was

  7. I'm Irish, we love any excuse for a drink and love anyone to join in with us. so embrace the day, wear some green, drink some guiness and talk c**p!!

we open our arms to you :)

  8. Yes, I was born in Roscommon.  I now live in NY, but I grew up in Ireland and still fly back to visit my family every chance I get (and can afford to do so lol).

  9. ye born and raised in Dublin

  10. haha i'm irish and living in ireland and i'm really hungover right now x

  11. No, but I went there for a family reunion a few years ago....17 of us on one flight over......was great!!!

  12. I'm not Irish but I know a little bit about this. They are typically called "Plastic Paddys." People of Irish descent that were born in America arn't technically Irish..... they are American. But it is ok to celebrate your heritage. I myself am proud of the fact that I am of Irish descent and am proud of my anscestors for having the courage to make the journey over here. When I celebrate St. Patricks day I think of them....... I dont pretend to be Irish. (For the record St. Patrick's day isn't about being Irish, its honoring St. Patrick for bringing Christianity into Ireland. Supposedly March 17th was the date of his death.)

  13. I am irish and live in ireland, I have never gotten drunk on st patricks day, it just for gombeens and ejits, I hate seeing native irish people playing up to stereotypes.

Fair enough, i drink and do get drunk, but our national day is no excuse to get SH1tFaced, we worked hard enough to get a country of our own

  14. Don't stereotype ALL Irish into being Drunks, We're all different.

I was born (and still live in) Donegal in Ireland and I don't drink.

    = )

  15. I am Irish and I live in Ireland. We love to party with anyone and we believe anyone can be one of us if they try hard enough!!!

Seriously though when I lived in America everyone claimed to be Irish. We are just so cool, everyone wants to be us!
