  1. hi,

checkout www.eztravel.com.tw. They have the 1 day tour to Taroko National Park from Taipei. You can take the latest Taroko Bullet Train from Taipei to Hualien. From there, there will be a coach (19 seater) to bring the tourist around Taroko. If you can to stay longer in Hualien, you can choose their 2 day 1 night stay. For the 1 day trip only, the price depends whether it's a weekend or weekday. Mon to Thur will be cheaper.

You answer for the fatest transportation will be Taroko Bullet Train. Two way approx NT 1000+.

  2. You got to catch the early train to Hualien:

    Tze Chiang 1051 Mount Taipei 06:45 Hualien 09:37 NT$ 445

    Tze Chiang 1053 Mount Taipei 07:10 Hualien 10:02  NTS445

It will be better if you book a Tourist Cabbie,Cabbies below

highly recommended by forumers. Costs NTD2500 ~3000 up to 4 persons for full tour at your convenience and these guys do not take you to rip off joints.Lunch not included but they recommend great inexpensive places to eat.

(Works out cheaper as well as there are 4 of you. )

Do not dial the (0) from overseas-

    Mr. Zhuang 886-(0)-932-142-590

    Mr. Chen Guang-fa - 886-(0)-937-167-779

    Trains for your return:

    Tze Chiang 1058 Hualien 17:59 Taipei 20:58 445

If you want to stick around for a longer period the you can take these for your return.

    Tze Chiang 1060 Hualien 19:00 Taipei 21:40 445

    Tze Chiang 1080 Hualien 19:28 Taipei 21:45 445

  3. The fastest way would be to fly from Songshan Airport in Taipei to Hualien.  The flight takes 40 minutes or so.  The train, if you get the one with the fewest stops, takes a bit over two hours.

It would be a shame to rush it like that.  It takes at least three days to see the gorge properly.

  4. I used something i can't spell in English, but in the Ba De Lu district there is a station for a train that used to be the top of the line before the High Speed Rail, then it goes straight to Hualian, and Hualian is the last stop. It costs about i think 800 NT, and takes about 3 hours, to get to Hualian, or maybe only 2.

  5. Your best bet would be either the bus or the "fast" train.

The "fast" train is a train that does not stop at every single little town/city/whatever and only stops at the major cities.

As for a bus, it might take an hour or so to get there.

I am not sure of the costs though. I guess that it can be covered within a day if you count on going in the morning and coming back in the afternoon, depending on how long you want to stay there at the park.
