Acer Windows Vista

OK, so I get this error when I am trying to download a program: Error 1719 Windows Installer could not be accessed. I do some research that indicates it might be caused by Windows Defender. I go to Windows Defender which is turned off....and none of the settings can be changed due to an "unidentified problem." The same with Windows firewall.

I have Avast and Comodo....

Then, I read something about a "Group Policy."....???

  1. Stupid questions I'd need to ask.. Did you download this installer and choose run from the dialogue, or is downloaded into a folder say your desktop and then run. Have you tried installing in safe mode..next would be have you downloaded Windows Installer 3.1. and ran it?

    Case your ver is hosed?

  2. listen if u have Avast and Comodo, u dont need windows defender, delete the program, it will fix the error.

  3. Install XP...and wait for Microsoft to get their act together (but don't hold your breath).

  4. Sounds like a virus, or OS corruption. Do a scan then a system restore.
