Just looking for some ideas, considering to maybe do a golf one for my future hubby bc he's a pro golfer. Also, how much do they cost, on average (range)?

Thanks!

  1. The grooms cake is generally just a sheet cake that is a different flavor from the bride's cake.  I can't help you on cost as a friend  of the family made our cakes.

My husband's cake was choc. with choc frosting.  Then she had choc covered strawberries cascading down on it.  It was very pretty.

Yes you actually serve the grooms cake to your guests.  There was a 1/4 of my husband's cake left and we only used the biggest tier of my cake out of a three tier cake. And I was worried about not having enough cake but there was plenty.

  2. I make cakes as a hobby, and I was going to try to make a Chevelle cake for my fiance (he has a 1972 and is obsessed with it and we are using it in our wedding)

I have no idea what they would cost, probably just depends on where you go and how elaborate it would be.

  3. We are doing a groom's cake for sure!! My fiance had a 1970 Nova for his first car that was passed down from his father. He had put countless hours and thousands and thousands of dollars into it and 2 years ago it was totaled by a drunk driver. So as a surprise I'm having the groom's cake a replica of his old car, he's going to love it!!! I think a golf cake would be absolutely adorable!! Groom's cake usually run about $200-$1000 it really depends on where you go and how detailed it is. Charmcitycakes.com they have really cute ideas.

  4. my fiance is an avid hunter, so his groom cke is going to have a deer on a jeep singing, it is pretty funny he know we are doing something but he is not sure wshat it is an dwe are also having on the cake deer behind trees and a guy in a tree stand, to make half of it look like the woods with him hunting in it

  5. Hi!  First off, congrats on the upcoming wedding!!!

My fiancee was a music education major in college and is a cellist, so when the idea of a grooms cake came up, i knew right away i wanted to do something with either a cello or music notes since the cake is supposed to reflect him...  so that is what i am doing.  our grooms cake is considerably cheaper than normal, because we are doing the same thing with that cake that we are doing with the wedding cake-we are doing fake cakes and serving the sheet cakes to everyone, so it is more for decor than anything.  the fake cake will run us about $100, but it was part of our package for where we are having the wedding.  if we went with the real cake, it would be more than double.

one of my bridesmaids married a cop, and the grooms cake at their wedding was a giant police badge complete with the seal of his police department.  it was pretty cool...  your golf idea is a good one!  i would see what they can price out for you at a few different places first.

    hope this helps!  good luck!

  6. I don't know how much they cost, since I haven't priced one yet.  I'm getting my fiance's cake in the shape of a Guitar Hero guitar because he LOVES that game.  I'm gonna serve it as dessert at the rehearsal dinner though.

  7. My husband is a golfer too... And I had him a cake made in the shape of a golf bag with golf clubs in it a little expensive but he loved it. I paid 300 for it.

  8. My hubby is into Paintballing! LOL!   So his was little army looking guys hiding behind things with 'paint' splattered in different places.  His was about $60.00

*EDIT*  This is to your edit, Yes we served the groomscake also.  Our wedding cake was white and the grooms was chocolate so the guest had the option of which one they wanted.

*edit again*  I noticed ours was cheaper than everyone elses.  We went and bougth the stuff we wanted put on it and then took it to our local Homeland Bakery and they made a sheet cake and then put the stuff we bought on it.

  9. I have had several cake ideas....but i think you are heading in the correct direction...I personally would do one of his favorite sports team or activity! I think your idea is GREAT! DOes he collect anything...a friend of mine is doing a coin cake because he collects old coins..hope this helps. This cake should cost between 150-250 depending on the size. BTW i am a wedding planner so if you have any other questions just let me know.

  10. A grooms cake is more of a fun thing the bride does to reflect the person she is marrying. My husband was a NASCAR fan...#3, I had a race car done to look like Dales car and everyone loved it because it fit him perfectly. SO..I think you are on the right track. It shouldn't be expensive...mine only cost 35.00 because I had to get someone who could do the detail work.  Surprise him with a cake in his favorite flavor that represents golf...it can be serious or funny...depends on your guy! Have fun!

  11. We did a german chocolate and had the coconut dyed green to look like grass and a little john deere tractor on top....my hubby likes them..... not expensive, about $15.00  we served it too, was great.... congrats.
