Anyone else, like me, see Bristol Palin's pregnancy as an opportunity?

An opportunity to show the nation that despite raising your children with good moral standards, that mistakes are still made in spite of it, and yet we don't have to kill (abort) the result of the indiscretion?! We can step up the plate, support our kids, and help them through rather than drive them to an abortion mill!

Despite all our good intentions and efforts to raise our kids to make good moral choices, they are still free agents. One of our jobs as parents is to stick with our kids even when they falter, and continue to do our best to guide them to victory rather than defeat.

This is obviously something liberals (and hypocrites) don't understand.

My niece just had a baby at 16, teenagers have s*x.  But they need to know the consequences of their actions.  They will grow up real fast.  We still don't know if she was preg. do we?

of course it is!  She connects with MILLIONS of working moms who have teenagers in the home...teen pregnancy is REAL, and it makes Palin truly a real mom living in the real world.  As any parent knows you cannot control a teenager.

and all the hate filled youth on this forum understand that their parents could never "order" them around.  Every 25 and under youth on this forum is going to do what they want and as teenagers, they all rebelled from their parents and many had lots of s*x, they dont care what their parents thought.

You're right. Children make mistakes. If Bristol's mother was a democrat she would have simply had an abortion and nobody would have known about this. It isn't easy for everyone in the world to know that you screwed up. I applaud her for taking responsibility for her actions.

If it's an opportunity for anything, it's an opportunity to show class by not discussing her situation publicly.  It doesn't matter which side of which political issue one is on, she didn't choose to become a political topic, and should have a right to be left alone.

I do ses McCain and the Rep party selecting the VP they did in a strategic manner -- female (can handle change), conservative values, fresh face.  Her conservative values are demonstrated in her having her child despite the disability.  Yes, an opportunity.  I think it is a little larger than just the pregnancy, but it satisfies the pro-life conservative voting block as McCain's record on conservative values is shaky.  Ans her being attractive can't hurt.  It is like McCain also picked her so that Obama can't point out her weaknesses (lack of experience, attractive) without pointing out his own.

I see it as her own business.

It's her choice whether she wants to have the baby or not; at least it should be.

It's not statistically likely a shotgun wedding at 17 is going to be successful. I know people who married for the baby's sake and pulled it off, but they were 20 at the time. But I don't know the specifics of the relationship. If she chooses to marry, I wish her luck.

Now she could hurt her mother's chances if she aborts, and I bet you she's been made very aware of it by Palin supporters. I find this a questionable case for the anti-abortion crowd.  

Finally, I don't like the idea of grabbing someone and making her "an opportunity." I have heard nothing from the woman in question about whether she wants to be your opportunity or not.

Ur point is well understood. Generalizations are bad so even dou I don't like liberals there are a lot of them that will agree with you on this one. But as you say teenagers are free agents and they do whatever they want, I have a friend that he and his wife had a kid when they were 15/14 years old, they are still married and they kids have grown to be very good kids.

There are plenty of young women who can handle a child at a young age. When you've got a supportive family, a baby's father who you want to marry, and enough money to go around then there's not really a big need for an abortion. However there are plenty of girls who don't have any of those things, and once the baby comes they are forced into a dead end job. Even then some women are able to juggle single motherhood, working, and continuing education, but not everyone has that ability.

No one wants abortions to happen. But the choice should be there, at least early on in the pregnancy, for young women in extremely difficult situations.

Yes, we conservatives would rather our children abstain until marriage, but we also understand that they to are human, and hormones and emotions can get the better of any of us.

What Sarah Palin and her husband are doing is highly respectable to me. While it would bother me at first, if my daughter were to get pregnant, we would support and help her as well to do the right thing, and not abort. Unlike Obama saying he wouldn't want his daughters to be punished with a baby for making a "mistake".

Our jobs as parents is to love and support our kids unconditionally. Not run them to the nearest abortion clinic so as to save the family face.
