Question:

Anyone else a womb twin survivor? Views on abortion?

I am a womb twin survivor, meaning that I am a twin (wow just imagine two of me!) but my twin was misscarried and I wasn't.

The funny thing is I contemplate what it would be like if my twin had lived and I feel connection. Yet I personally would not feel any attachment if I myself got pregnant and had an abortion.

Like there is a difference between being in the womb with someone else, and having someone else in your womb...

Anyone else a womb twin survivor? What are your thought son abortion, does the fact you are a womb twin survivor change your views on abortion?

  1. Wow I have to say you are the first person I ever met that is a womb twin survivor like myself.  I have always felt out of place and no connections to my older sister.  I have asked my mother many times what my twin was a boy or a girl.  She always says she didn't want to know.  Growing up I use to think I should have been the one to be miscarried and my twin live instead.

On abortion I still it as one's personal choice.  Since it was a miscarriage I don't feel it has anything to do with aborting a baby at all.

  2. i'm not a womb twin survivor, so i make no claims to remotely understand your feelings on this matter.

However, i don't see how this situation is really related to abortion, seeing as your twin was a miscarriage not aborted.

Furthermore, the fact that you say "i personally would not feel any attachment if I myself got pregnant and had an abortion" leads me to believe you have not been in this situation before. - abortion is a really tricky subject, and varies greatly situation to situation. However just about every study shows that women who have had abortions, most feel some sort of loss or remorse (not the same as guilt - many stick by their decision).

I just feel that to say you wouldn't be attached - you can't really know that until you're in the situation.

  3. my neighbor is a womb twin survivor, and she HATES aborition

  4. This is a sensitive topic and often passions flood it.. but here goes.

I believe everyone essentially cannot be forced to do anything against their will. I also believe that in being pro-choice you have to be careful since there are many inconsistencies that arise when you advocate LEGALISING abortion not just having one.

But then it comes down to why you hold the view. If you believe inherently that it is permissible then that cannot be scrutinised since it is effectively an empirical view at least to you. If you start adding variables like "its because women should not have to carry a baby to term or should not suffer"  then you make it a moral issue which is open to scrutiny.

First poster is right miscarriage and abortion are separate issues altogether though
