Anyone else as shocked as me??

Is anyone else appalled at the level of spelling and grammar on Yahoo answers? I am shocked to the bone that so many adults simply can't write very well at all.

Am I a snob or are people feeling the same?!

  1. No, You're not a snob, it drives me crazy when people make big typos etc!

  2. no you're not a sonb, it really is appealingly bid.

I blame parents being too lazy or too dim to teach their kids.

Kids really should know the alphabet and be able to spell simple words before they start school, but some parents are too lazy to learn to read themselves.

I've met plenty of adults that read appallingly and make no effort to improve their skills for the sake of their kids.

It wouldn't even take much effort, just pick up a book and stick at it till you've worked it out.

When I was at school most 8 year olds could read and write perfectly well, there is no excuse for an adult to be so lazy.

  3. I'm with you all the way on this.  It drives me up the wall - and you get a spell checker too so what is their problem.  All this text talk is getting a little out of hand in my eyes.

  4. Yahoo Answers merely reflects what is going on with the general population regarding basic spelling and grammar skills.

I used to be shocked when I first started conducting job applicant interviews about 25 years ago. That's when I first noticed a significant problem. But unfortunately, I've seen a steady decline of spelling and grammar skills over the past 25 years. More than anything, I'm disappointed in our schools for not demanding a higher level of comprehension when it comes to the basics.

  5. Essy - you are more than a snot, you are a snot and vermin who should be left in a dungeon and fed rat vomit in total darkness.

    Get a life loser.

  6. I too find it absolutely disgusting. I know many people write in text speak these days, but in my opinion this is not appropriate on this site.

However I do think many people are actually incapable of writing in a grammatically correct manner and are unable to spell the simplest words.

I find it infuriating when they can't even be bothered to use capitals for I.

  7. I know what you mean. I can't decide if people really don't know formal english, or if  yahoo answers  is just the wrong place for people to want to use it.  Sometimes though, I can't even tell what the question or details are actually trying to say.

  8. no one gives a **** its yahoo answers not a letter to the PM you clearly have a very boring life to care about this c**p. or are shocked do you live in a closet?

  9. Who really cares? Its not like someone is going to get fined for typing incorrectly, and personally I think you are a snob for making such a big deal of this.

  10. its all txt language thats why.

  11. lol i alwayz put txt speak hehe!:P dat dnt mean i cant spel!:S OMG its quiker:Pxx

  12. I am no longer shocked! I admit that I am amazed at the rapidly increasing abuse of our beautiful language. One can only assume that certain types of people are incapable of enjoying a good book and would rather watch a DVD!

Of course English, like any other language is in a state of flux and "usage and abusage" will, over the course of time modify it and cause it to mutate.

Punctuation for many is something beyond understanding and their misuse of it is merely a reflection of the way that they think - incoherently!

  13. Mostly just laziness

  14. Yeah, spelling and grammar are terrible on here and plenty of other sites. It's not a case of not writing well always, just a case of being too lazy to check writing through or being too lazy to write words in their proper form. I'm sure plenty of people on here could write well if they wanted

  15. No, you are not a snob, or if you are, then I am too!
