  1. OF COURSE!!  It's a fear I think anyone who has ever watched even a single race prays that they all come back to the barn after crossing the finish line healthy.  (I used to say "cross the finish line healthy" but after Eight Belles (God Bless Her)...gotta add the additional prayers!!)

Everytime I see a stumble - either in real life or replayed - I wanna throw up.  Charismatic's coming out of the gate just about does me in!  His legs look like they are flopping around, and I am so overcome with emotion!

Big Brown is strong.  As the others have said, this quarter crack isn't going to be anything to worry about as far as soundness.  He has been dealing with them his entire life and won his Maiden with a pretty severe one, according to what I have read.

  2. yes, my daughter , especially after what happened to the filly at the Derby

  3. A quarter crack in a horse's hoof is not something catastrophic, he'll be fine.

  4. Of course I'm hoping that Big Brown comes back safely from the race.  I hope that about every horse that goes into every race.

Big Brown's hoof crack is not going to cause him to break down.  It could bother him enough to cost him the win, but it's not going to cause him to break a leg or something like that.  Even if half of his hoof wall fell off in the race (not going to happen... only possible if another horse stands on his foot... it wouldn't happen just because of this crack thing), the horse would be fine because the hoof would grow back.

We seriously need to get through tomorrow without any injuries.  Not only for the horses' welfare, but for the welfare of the sport... can you imagine the Peta uproar if anyone gets hurt tomorrow?

  5. Of course we are praying that no tragedy befalls Big Brown in this race. But don't let that crack cause you consternation. The crack is patched with a fast drying acrylic and fiberglass compound and you can bet the ranch that the patch is stronger than the remaining uninjured portion of his hoof. It is the remaining uninjured portion of his hooves which are at risk of cracking.
