Question:

Anyone else completely joins names when married?

I just wondered how many other couples do this because I haven't heard of anyone else doing it yet. My hubby and I both changed our names to be completely merged (not hypernated).

It's so special because we have completely joined family names and started a new legacy. And we are the only 2 people in the whole world that have this name.

Anyone else do this?

  1. No, it's a cool idea.

My husband and I were going to just choose a new name and both have our names changed to that, but in the end we both just kept our names.

  2. I would definitely consider it, if the result sounded good. If not, I would either want to hyphenate or keep our own names.

  3. Sound like a great ideal, but I never heard anyone else doing it, it would not surprise it other couples done it in pass and future.

  4. That's a new one on me. When I got married, we both changed our names to a totally different name, and I have heard of others also doing this.

But your way is quite new!

It might very well catch on, however.

    Cheers :-)

  5. My last name is my mother's last name, not my father's as he had no impact in my life. My mom had no sons, and her siblings' children all took on their father's names. Our last name is one of those "dying" names that couldn't be carried on because of the lack of sons who had sons, etc.

I intend to keep my last name, whether it be hyphenated with my future husbands' or merged, like you have done, or simply not changing my name at all and putting Mrs. in the front of my full name.

I think it's a really good idea you have going there. There are some beautiful last names that are "dying out" like my last name because they aren't being passed on. I just hope your last name, and my future last name, fit on credit applications, bills, etc. and don't have to be abbreivated because they're so long. :)
