Question:

Anyone else concerned about this missile defense system?

The stated purpose of this defense system is to protect Europe from the threats of Iran and N. Korea. Neither country has the capability to launch a missile that far.

Now, perhaps eventually they could develop the capability, but why Poland? wouldn't Turkey make more sense?

Originally Putin had proposed the idea of a joint defense system with the US and Europe, but the US had no interest in this proposal.

Anyone think this is going to create another arms race with an annoyed, and aggressive Russia?

  1. Absolutely. For the past 2 years, Russia has been saying that  the if we put a missle defense system on the Poland/Russia border, Russia will put a defense system on the Russia/Poland border. For some reason the media has refrained from reporting on  this. But don't forget that the media gave us the Bigfoot hoax for 30 years.

  2. no

  3. If Europe wanted a defence system they would have done it themselves, Why does America want to do this off their own bat. The only country with atomic weapons are Russia and Israel in that area. We have lived with the Russian "threat" for 60 odd years and they have never showed any sign of using their weapons. Now Israel are a different matter but this missile defence system cannot be the reason for them as the US helped them get nuclear weapons in the first place. So I guess its just another case of sabre rattling by the US to provoke Russia. America should drop this stupid idea like a hot brick and co-operate with Russia rather than trying to provoke them with this daft idea.

  4. I have consulted BOOFUS on this

As a confirmed student on international affairs

he says it's a matter scenting.

GWB is marking his territory.. that's all and

    the bears don't like it.

  5. It's really a lot of posturing by the West.  It seems to be more focused on the US reinforcing Poland's NATO position more than any other factor, and establishing to Russia that it's not free to threaten or bully Poland.

As for the missile defense system itself, it's a failure.  While technology exists to allow anti-missile defenses to hit missiles, there are two key problems.  The first is it's super expensive, and the second is that it's a system that can easily be "fooled."  It won't work for another couple of decades at all, and will still be easily fooled.

The US government is wasting tons of money on it, and should be urged to stop.

  6. It's so obvious that everyone except Americans can see it!  The Polish and Czech governments can probably see it too, but will do whatever they are paid to do by their US employers.
