I had the great misfortune to run into 3 different groups yesterday in London and they did not listen to my polite refusal until I had said it at least 10 times. Then when I got home there was one on my doorstep!!!!!

  1. Yeah. I want a T-shirt that says:

"Please don't ask for charity as being told to f*ck off often offends"

  2. They can be a real pain when they right in your face, if I want to give to charity which I often do I prefer to go and find it not be harassed on the street....

  3. i just give them dirty looks. i do hate people begging on london tubes........

  4. It's like that in manchester now! Walking past the university there's usually 2 groups and then when you get to the city centre you get bombarded with them again. Some of them sound a bit too dodgy to be charities though. If you want to give to charity we would by our own accord, we don't need people telling us!

Just act like your crazy and wave your hands in the air, they'll avoid you then. Or do what I do and just listen to your ipod and then look like your on a mission by walking right past them.

  5. I don't mind them but it really, really irritates me when they won't take no for answer & accept that I will do it when I go home, I don't want to give out my banking details in the middle of a busy street & I shouldn't have to explain why either.

  6. Don't get me started! The worst thing is that they pretend that they are doing it because they care about the particular cause, when most of them work for promotions companies and get commission for everyone they sign up.

I reserve the right to research any charity I give to - the ones that I do would never compromise their reputation through such bullying tactics!

And while I am on the subject...people who stop you to ask if you have had an accident that wasn't your fault...parasitic low-lifes!

    And another thing...

  7. ah yes i hate them also. They basically bully people into giving up there spare change. or signing up. It's not right. I had some guy pester me and in the end i threw 10p in change across the floor and was like you want my spare change? Go get it. The ones at the door are the worst though.at least on the street you can just walk away. And like im about to hand over my bank details to some guy on the street.

  8. I am glad I am not in London, and don't visit town where I live.

I often shop online, only time I go to town is in the evening to find the pubs.

  9. I don't despise them, but I certainly don't like them. I understand that they're under a lot of pressure to sign people up but there is not a chance I'll support any charity based on what is effectively a 'sales speech' in the street; I prefer to look into the charity and decide if I agree with all their ideas and work, and telling them so is the best way to get rid rid of them. For instance I won't give to the RSPCA because I don't agree with their policy of euthanising injured wild animals despite the fact that they have the resources and funds to treat, rehabilitate and return the animals to the wild. I put this to a bloke who turned up on my door trying to sign me up to them and it stopped him in his tracks, the look on his face was priceless.

  10. Yeah, I get really fed up with it. Have you noticed, that when they approach people in the street, the males always approach females, and vice versa?  They think people won't walk away from a smiling, charming member of the opposite s*x, especially the men. I've seen men smiling in response even before the young female charity worker has spoken to them. Suckers!  They don't usually work for the charity anyway, they are agency paid, and paid well too, and chosen for their chatty, and mostly attractive appearance. It's not very honest, is it?
