Question:

Anyone else feel this way when it comes to guests?

Is it just me or is it a bit lame to serve everyone with plastic plates/cups? (Say there is about 12 ppl total)

For some reason I always thought it showed more hospitality/manners to serve from real plates?

Does anyone notice this? Esp. since I'm Muslim & would like to retain some "traditional" etiquette lol. Thx!

  1. Plastic is alright if they're kids or if you're at some soup kitchen for the homeless but it has to be the real thing otherwhise. Yes it might be alot of washing up afterwards but what impression would you get from someone if you went to their house and they offered you plastic? Using plastic kinda implies being un-respectful to the older generation on particular.

  2. unless out side eating i like the real thing.

  3. I find it much easier to serve on paper plates when I have large company.  I would rather spend time with my guests than worry about cleaning up.  The only difference would be if I hired someone to serve.

  4. If they come unexpected and you don't have enough real plates, then it's fine to serve some with plastic plates. Don't hesitate to tell them to excuse you because  you ran out of real plates.

  5. I think it depends on the company being served. If it's close friends/family, then i would say paper would be fine as long as they're quality, sturdy paper plates. If it's someone you're trying to impress ie. business clients, significant other's family, etc, then definitely real plates if possible. And I would say real silverware across the board. The guests should be gracious either way, however, that you are serving them at all and any real  disturbance about what material their plate was made of is a true and poor reflection of their  character.

  6. It depends on the occasion and who your guests are.  If it's just a casual thing, I wouldn't care, in fact, I'd feel bad if they used real plates, etc, just thinking about them having to do the dishes afterwards.  Guests should care about the host's comfort, too.

  7. I prefer real plates but if sturdy paper plates are used I can live with it...I hate plastic eating utensils though....that really irritates me.

  8. if its me, id accept anything whether its on a silver platter or on my hand. but some ppl are big shots, high maintenance etc. so i guess u gotta look at the person u are serving. but paper plates make sense if theres a lot of people, so u dont have to wash the dishes.

  9. No.I actually like eating at people's houses with plastic ware
