Question:

Anyone else find people who ride their bicycles in the road annoying?

I see them all the time where I live during the summer. Of course the law says that you have to share the road with them I still can't help but be irritated.

Bicyclists around here feel like they should ride in the lanes. They always hog up the lane and go 15mph in a 35. Your only option is to reduce your speed to 15 mph behind them and wait till your in a passing safe zone to go around them. Everytime I see a bicylist in the road there is also a perfectly usable side part of the road or sidewalk they could ride on but they insist on riding in the lane anyway. I wouldn't mind them in the roadway if they could actually do the speed limit.

They have the right to use the road but need to follow the same rules as drivers. If a car was travelling 15 in a 35 they would get pulled over by police for holding up traffic. Why do bicylists think its ok for them to do it?

Anyone else find this annoying?

  1. well when gas hit 5.00 a gal i'll be one oh those a******s on the bike......get over it..

  2. "Bicyclists around here fell like they should ride in the lanes."

They have to.  First off its the law... its not legal to ride a bike on a public sidewalk so that only leaves the road.  Bicyclists are also supposed to occupy the left third of a lane just as a motorcycle to improve visibility to ignorant drivers such as yourself.

  3. I don't see why this should be annoying.  Unless it's a 1-lane road, you can always go around them.  They are supposed to stay in the rightmost lane anyway, unless they are turning left.

Besides, it's often illegal for them to go on the sidewalk.

  4. no we find it annoying when drivers lik you honk at us for no reason and because whose the  one not polluting and saving gas sure  its you

bicycles are consider vehicles they have the same rights

so you slow down a bit for a few minutes are you that

what will that hurt? are you that

Much IN hurry to get to the next red light?

  5. "I wouldn't mind them in the roadway if they could actually do the speed limit."

You have to be in very good shape to be able to sustain a 35 mph speed on a bicycle ( especially when the roadway includes inclines ).

  6. I found them annoying when I am walking on the side-walk and they keep going on the same speed as if its a highway , I think they should have side lanes and respect drivers and pedestrians; bicycle riders are both dangerous to pedestrians and drivers if they are not keeping a certain speed limits. For me it annoys me that its enough that you have to keep attention to other drivers and pedestrians but now you have to pay attention to bicycles riders who's their driving rules between driving on the road and on the side-walks has not been clearly defined! Someone has to set priority signs on the streets!

  7. Get over it, yes they have a right to the road, but they should keep close to the kerb and never ride more than 2 abreast.

In civilised countries, like Australia, there are marked bike lanes that cyclists can use and cars cannot.

  8. I have been riding bikes for years but you have to be careful. I wouldn't buy a bike for speed, alone. I choose them for comfort. If I do crash I will have much less serious injuries, than if I speed.
