One gets the feeling that Georgia is merely the bait, and that Putin wants the US involved, so that he can make it the war with the US that he has been itching for since his days in the KGB...

At 3:30 08.08.2008 tanks of the Georgian armies have entered into city Tskhinvali. Artillery bombardment all the day long proceeded, fights with use of tanks and heavy combat material, both against ossetic armies, and against peace inhabitants were conducted. 2000 civil people already were lost. The Russian peacemakers have arrived to South Ossetia in the evening 08.08.2008 for settlement of the conflict and prompting of the world in republic and protection of the Russian citizens living on territory of South Ossetia. Georgia has attacked South Ossetia on eve of Olympiad, it is top of cruelty and cynicism. Kindergarten! Georgia for sure is a bait, but for the rest of the world. Georgia started this war with the help of U.S., with the help of its money and army. U.S.gave Georgia 2 gratuitous credits for weapons, american troops were found in Tzchinvali. 2000 of peacefull ossetians (children, women and old) are dead and more of them are russians. Some of Russian peacekeepers (!!!!!!!) were killed. Please, stop talking trash! Just come here and see everything with your own eyes, not with the lying eyes of media. And the president is Medvedev now, not Putin (though Putin is still a serious figure in politics).

Ya it does seem that way. I just hope we don't get involved we are their ally but Germany can help them.

We don't need to lose anymore troops in Iraq. They are sending back 2000 of Georgia's troops today.

No, Russia's military is in bad shape, most of their fleet sits rusting away in port, and their weapons are aged, not much discipline with their troops either.
