Question:

Anyone else getting the runaround trying to get a VA loan?

My husband and I are trying to obtain a certificate of eligilbility. We get nothing but the run around. They aren't accepting documents and are asking for things that either don't exist or hard to obtain. We try to call but either get "high call volume try back later" or rude reps who seem to know nothing about the requirments for one. Anyone else have this problem?

  1. My husband is also considering a VA loan but we've heard lots of bad things.  One person, who worked for the VA, even told us not to bother and to try a different program because the VA sucks.

  2. Husband and I purchased our home via VA because we had no down pymt.  Because I'm in the business I didn't have a problem getting my CE.

If you're getting the run around from the lender, try another lender.  If you're getting the run around from the VA, tell the lender if they want your business they need to assist you.

If you have a small down pymt, you could try FHA, depending on your loan amount.

    Good luck.

  3. Not sure if you are having a problem with the VA or your lender but You will absolutely need your husbands discharge papers (DD214). Go to the VA online and search for obtaining Certificate of Eligibility. Follow the instructions and then you have to wait. I believe they have up to 2 weeks to get it to you.

I'm a loan officer that does VA loans and this is the quickest way I have found.

If you don't have the discharge papers to prove his eligibility your  going to have to take the time to get them. Until then the VA will do nothing. The DD214 is the key and you really should have this very important document in a safe place regardless of if you are trying to obtain a VA loan or not. This can be useful for Veterans benefits if needed.
