Anyone else guilty of doing something stupid and then thinking ....?

I am a question asking machine today!

Does anyone else ever drop, spill, lose, or break something and then think "man, there goes $____ down the drain" ???

This morning I dropped a brand spankin' new can of formula which promptly opened and spilled between the counter and fridge where I couldn't reach. First I swore (I really need to work on that!) and then I thought to myself "well, there went $25." And then I left a note for my husband to clean it up after work :)

Is anyone else guilty of assigning a monetary value to every possession you own??

  1. Yes.  For me it's gasoline.  If I have to make a trip to somewhere I didn't plan for the week I automatically count in my head the cost.  Ridiculous.

  2. I do that all the time.  My son generally has a poopy diaper routine and we will wait until he is done.  Every once in a while we will think that he is done and sure enough, as soon as you get the new diaper on, there is more.  Everytime that happens I think to myself, "C#$&! That is like $0.50 that he litterally just pooped on."

  3. hee hee i do that ALL the time!!

  4. No not really in that way. When I do say it, is when I buy something I think my son will absolutely love and he gives it one look and throws it in the corner never to be touched again, then I'll go: 'Well that was a waste of $__'

  5. yes, i am guilty of it.

i overpaid someone by $15.  she told me i paid her in full, i was insistent that i didn't.  later i was doing my math and realized i did pay her.  oh well.

last month my husband lost the car keys. we had to call a locksmith to make a new key. that threw us off by $115

  6. I do the same thing. I hate when I give my son his bottle and he leaves an ounce at the bottom!! lol It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does I'm like that's probably 75 cents atleast!

  7. It's really funny you ask this.

I let my baby self-feed, and he drops a lot of it on the floor, and simply doesn't ingest much of the food.  I sit there thinking to myself "Kid, that was $2.99 a pound..."

  8. Yes, especially formula!! That stuff is expensive!! I hate to pour out even a few ounces!!

  9. Ugh...that sounds eerily familiar.

When we first got pregnant my husband surprised me with a Coach diaper bag as a congratulations gift. When Ben was still on formula I once spilled the entire can into the bag. I think my exact words were..."f@#$ there goes $25 into a $400 bag."

The bag came clean, but it is now sitting in my closet because I am afraid to take it out. I was never this money obsessed until we had baby.

Edit: LMAO at your add. I have a couple of cans left, I guess I better not feed it to the cat.

  10. Hahahaha... I do the same thing, only it's when I'm scooping the powder out to prepare the formula for the day and I accidentally drop some on the counter.  I'm like "DANG IT!  There goes .50 cents!!!"

I'm dead serious.  I'm pinching my pennies lately.  :)

  11. Yes, I am guilty of that!!!

  12. Once, I accidently broke my moms necklece and the beads went down the bathroom drain. There goes $45!!

  13. I have done that, we have had feeding issues with our son, so we switched formulas AGAIN, therefore wasting all the old formula $$

It's ok, babies cost a lot of money, especially when you have them in daycare!!! Every penny counts!

  14. Oh yes!  And I did that same thing with a can of formula when my daughter was a baby.  Thats like liquid gold, right down the drain! lol

While I hate clutter and am far from a pack rat, when I throw things out I always think in the back of my head, the money I am losing.  When I clean out my fridge i just cringe, as groceries are so expensive and throwing food out seems almost sinful!

I think its pretty normal!  Either that, or the two of us are just neurotic lol

  15. No.  I try to live a more spiritual life, even though I am poor.

  16. your additional details gave me a good laugh, thank you... =P Anyhow, I am very guilty of this, I think if my husband and I didn't have such horrible money issues, I wouldn't be that way over so many things, but to me a few dollars means a lot and when it goes to waste I am very bothered by it.

Or I guess I should say giggle, that sounding kinda mean, I wasn't meaning too.

  17. i do that every stinking day. But i do it with hours we had to work to make the money.  Like soda.  A 12 pack of soda costs about an hour to earn, after taxes, or my boyfriend a 1/2 hour to earn.  So every wasted can makes me very very angry.  lol.  Our rent is 52 hours of work.  And the electric bill is another 15-20.  So,  i have a hard time buying anything even remotely expensive, or throwing away anything that might, (might might might) have some value left.

i also feel your pain on the refrigerator thing, every week when i clean out the fridge,it almost makes me cry.  Why can't men ever eat leftovers?  And if you just make less food, then they whine because they are still hungry and it is all gone...
